The Zia Singers will join the New Mexico Gay Men’s Chorus and Rio Rancho Youth Chorus in presenting the Southwest premiere of To Shiver the Sky by Grammy-award-winning composer Christopher Tin!
His latest oratorio delves into the history of flight and mankind’s desire to conquer the heavens. Featuring texts by 11 of the world’s greatest astronomers, inventors, visionaries, and aeronauts, To Shiver the Sky charts man’s relentless need to explore the sky, defy earthly bonds, and ultimately claim our place among the stars. Orchestration is a unique feature of this work. To parallel the march of aviation progress across the centuries, the musical language ranges from medieval to classical and from impressionism to romantic, and, ultimately, post-classical to modern. Song lyrics are performed in a panoply of world languages, including English, Latin, Italian, German, French, Polish, Russian, and Sanskrit.
